"Relationships have been on the decline ever since women came out of the cave, looked around and said, 'this isn't so bad.'"

I read somewhere the other day that this generation is redefining relationships between men and women. And not just in the obvious way, that is that people are now having more sex with more people in more places more often. No, it was more about the way this generation is redefining gender roles and therefore the relationships between the sexes, including friendships.

Back in our parents' day everyone knew where they stood. The men were outside with their beers and their BBQs, the women were inside gossiping about the neighbours and making salads and sweets and keeping an eye on the more eratic kids. These days you're just as likely to see the girls outside bowling cricket balls and sculling beer while the health-conscious boys are inside with their pink shirts and their sparkling wine. Girls dress like boys, boys dress like girls and everyone listens to the same music. Women are becoming politicians and lawyers, men are becomign teachers and nurses. Women call men asking them on dates, pay their own bills and make the first move when it comes to sex.

It's all very confusing really.

But because we've all become the same somewhere along the line men and women are much more likely to be friends. Sure past generations had cross-gender friendships. They hung out with their partner's friends and hung out in mixed groups to match up their single pals. There wasn't the one-on-one male/female friendships we see today.

Of course, some people still struggle to be 'just friends' with the opposite sex. While J has plenty of gay friends she doesn't have many straight male friends. This is probably because she's looking for a potential lay everytime she meets someone and all of her 'friendships' end up laden with sexual tension until it becomes awkward for everyone. Just look at S and Bossman.

A has been good friends with C for years and they are pretty much the dream friendship. Lots of booze, lots of stupid antics, lots of gossip and no sex whatsoever.

That used to be M and E. They were the kind of friends that could hang out and have fun in coffee shops, in music stores, in pubs, in pool halls, in the park, watching TV and everything in between. They could call each other for anything ranging from failing a test to love life issues and a housing crisis. Now everything has changed. Now things are awkward and they aren't answering each other's phone calls and their friendship is practically in the loo. One kiss really can change everything.

Let's hope they can get over it and more forward.

"Nobody likes you when you're 23, and are still more amused by prank phone calls"

The past weekend was A's birthday and it was giant night, suiting A's personality and party vibe. The only rule: if you're not drunk, don't bother to show up. Those who didn't show up included L, H, S and Hottie.

K and B started the night at work with gym junkie but were quick to start on the champagne while serving customers. Sneaky shots in between handing out pizzas is always a good plan. They rocked up a little late which meant they had to wait in line, but K managed to talk her way in without waiting...B flashing a little extra flesh may also have helped. Soon enough they were crazy dancing although it took them a good hour before they spotted A despite her bright blue hair which has become her calling card. Halfway through the night B thought she spotted one-night-stand and went to make out with him but it turned out it wasn't him and his girlfriend started a massive screaming fit with B. K alerted the bouncers and managed to get the girlfriend kicked out. B spent the rest of the night with the guy, but opted for maccas rather than going back to his house.

C had a twenty-first to go to before A's, but of course put in an appearence. He got incredibly drunk playing drinking games at his first party and is not entirely sure how he got to A's. He knows he was on a tram at one point and that he stopped for pizza (because he found some of it on his shirt the following morning) but other than that isn't sure how he managed to convince someone to let him in. He found a girl with blue hair who he assumed to be A and was chatting (well yelling random comments) and dancing with her only to be approached by the real A later who was like 'who is this bitch who has stolen my hair colour and my friend?' C quickly backtracked and the two of them were dancing on stage with one of the DJs until C though stagediving would be fun and managed to get himself kicked out. He woke up in a gutter the next morning not entirely sure what happened but is pretty sure he's pieced most of his night together from subsequent phone conversations.

J decided to invite Motley Crue along, and then wondered why. She's always been a single girl at heart and having a boyfriend cramps her flirty style. Luckily for her Motley didn't show up until late because he had a concert to go to. A concert where he got a huge gash just above his eye so that when he did arrive J had to spend the rest of the night wiping it carefully with a tissue. She was not too impressed with this although at least she had someone to join for a smoke.

Dumbass came along with a group of his friends (some from campus living, some not) but no one saw much of them. They did a few shots with A and then a few of them got involved in a huge punch-on in the middle of the room...

G came along with her boyfriend and a few others. One of her red-headed friends hooked up with another red-head and started to panic and began running around screaming because it is her one life rule not to hook up with another red-head so as to prevent ranga babies. G got pissed off when her boyfriend started dirty dancing with another girl and they got into a big screaming match. He decided to leave early with another of G's friends. Dumbass thought this meant G's boyfriend had actually gone home with another girl and got really upset on G's behalf and threatened to punch the guy up. G's boyfriend is kind of wimpy. There was no actual fight but G and Dumbass did make out and now G feels really guilty about it and isn't sure whether to tell her boyfriend or not.

M put in a late appearence after going skydiving that morning but despite drinking an entire bottle of wine beforehand didn't seem that drunk. She had fun dancing with a few random people but didn't get up to any antics much to A's general dissapointment.

A herself got in a fight with one of the bouncers after throwing a beer glass across the floor (she'd previously skulled it in about 10 seconds) and said 'i'll be throwing you across the floor in a minute'. Luckily for everyone though she soon got distracted meeting her friends and encouraging them to drink up. She started a mosh pit in the middle of the room. With the help of a random guy they soon managed to have everyone running in circles and slamming into each other. She was then dancing on a pool table and threatening to choke the other blue-haired girl with her own hair.

Several of A's friends from uni and work showed up but they all seemed a little scared and headed home before the night was over. Some people just can't handle A's birthday. The next morning A found herself throwing up in the shower before heading off to work. J had to sneak Motley Crue out of her bed and her neighbourhood. Luckily he brought a bike.

"Orange Mocha Frappucino!"

Dry shampoo just may be the best invention ever.

Summer is finally here which should mean long, lazy days at the beach and nights at the pub with towering beers and parmas the size opf our heads. Should? Oh yes it does.

K is on placement at the moment which means working 9-5 every day plus her extra shifts waitressing which means she's just too tired to do anything else anyway. B has a bit of extra time on her hands, when she isn't trying to convince herself that one-night-stand wants more than the odd booty call. Gentlemen don't ring at 3am and invite you over for any of the following: movies, night caps, talking, 'fun', etc etc. Of course gentlemen don't do other things...

There's a new guy at J's work and she was getting excited about the new eye candy because Bossman's recently shaved off all his hair and is growing some minature beard thing and has been looking rather odd lately. That is until she met Ronald McDonald. Tall, lanky and with bright red hair. J is not a fan of red hair at all. Not to mention he's one of those wanky 'company policy' types which is never fun. J is determined to hook him up with Bossman at the office Christmas party because as far as she's concerned, making out with Bossman is an important rite of passage. She also caught up with P and S on a night out, just the three of them. P has recently broken up with his boyfriend and bought a whole bunch of $50 mesh underwear, so he was ready to go. S was being a tool as he often is lately but P was being bitchy towards him the whole night so at least J had something to laugh about. S is still doing that thing where he acts like his life is perfect and then has a couple of drinks and starts getting all emo. How exhausting. J doesn't want deep and meaningfuls, especially not after a few drinks. Either you like your life, or you don't. S's pretending is starting to piss us all off.

A and L are in a fight over A's comment that it was L's fault H basically ditched us. Well, it isn't a fight so much as a cold war. They aren't really speaking, but they aren't really fighting. A is usually far more into confrontation than the silent treatment but she just doesn't have the energy to deal with the drama. L seems to be spoiling for a fight which is odd for her, but maybe the tension of losing her boyfriend and her best friend has the cracks starting to appear. Maybe A is too busy stressing over Hottie. She confessed to J and B that she is actually really into him. Maybe it's his good looks. Maybe it's that his hayfever symptoms are ridiculously cute. Maybe it's because he's amazing on a surfboard. Maybe it's everything. Either way it's a total shock because who's ever heard of committment phobic A being into a guy, and admitting it? If she starts going out with him it'll mean everyone's had a boyfriend this year...weirdest thing ever. The problem is A doesn't know have to deal with actually liking a guy, so she's treating Hottie as one of her usualy hook-ups. They've only hooked up the one time, and gone back to their flirty friendship at work.

L has received calls from secret admirer wanting to stay friends. She isn't sure she can handle that because she still isn't really sure what went on in their relationship, except that neither of them particularly want to be with each other and yet at the same time they do. She really wants time to be able to analyse the situation from the outside.

But the problem is, on your own life, it's never really possible to look inside from the outter is it?

"I remember shots, without a chaser, absentminded thoughts, now you're a stranger"

Lose a friend, gain a friend.

After months of not seeing B and K, it seems they're back hanging with the others. On the other hand, H and L are nowhere to be seen. H seems really in to her new boyfriend which is so unlike H it's quite shocking. As for L, well she sent a group text message saying she won't be drinking until further notice although she will be up for things like shopping and lunching. Here's the thing, if you're going to bail on all future events (and all of the future planned events currently involve drinking) you should suggest an alternative. A concrete alternative. Such as: don't really feel like drinking but want to go shopping/lunching/coffee/whatever on the weekend? You don't just say 'I still wanna hang out' but offer no viable solution. That's only going to piss off all the people you just bailed on. We understand L has secret admirer now but what, she doesn't have any time for the people who've been her best friends for the past 10 years? Bit harsh don't you think L?

Last night A, J, B, K, N and a few of K's uni friends all went out together. It was great to see N, who hasn't been around in forever. Apparently she's been really busy lately but is going to try and start hanging out with us more. Fair enough. N's been working 3 jobs and has just applied for another one to dress up as Santa's elf during the Christmas season. C'mon, that wouldn't be fun? Anyway copious amounts of alcohol were had by all, thanks to the entire bottle of raki B managed to sneak in. This led to stripper-style dancing on tables. Hang your head in shame girls. All of K's friends seemed a tad embarrassed to be seen with us, probably because we'd turned into those loud Ladette to Lady types. Oh well, it was a fun night. J can't remember how many guys she made out with although she claims it was only 2. B thinks it has to be at least 5, including one guy who was groping her up against the wall. A turned down any friendly guy with a disgusted scowl and a glare. Pissed off about the whole 'non-sexual' thing she smoked some pot and spent the rest of the evening staring at a plastic plant. A hardly ever does drugs seeings as their illegal and she's a good ol' law-abiding citizen...although she never acts it. Has she replasec sex with drugs? And wouldn't she be better off with sex? She really should quit this idiotic anti-sex thing. B spent much of the evening chatting to some American guy who's accent she couldn't quite figure out but he walked off when she started telling the whole R story. It's been a year, and he's gone back home. B really needs to move on. She's trying, really, but it's hard for her.

J, A and S met up for coffee to try and save their friendship. Bossman was supposed to go along as a buffer, but he had to work. In the beginning it was awkard. No one really knew what to say. A kept asking endless questions about his trip because she hasn't seem him since them. S announced his new job (apparently he sells expensive suits) and J started a fight about how S has become so pretentious. This started a huge argument with S saying at least he's happy with his life and doesn't have to self-medicate with alcohol and sex with strangers. Which led to J yelling that at least she didn't pretend to have the perfect life and then turn around and cheat on his girlfriend. A tried to mediate but she's pretty much the worst mediator ever and started accusing S of being pissed off because neither she nor J will sleep with him. However all the yelling might have been a good thing because they all admitted that, despite their differences they've all had a lot of fun and a lot of memories together. The friendship is kind of in limbo at the moment, but at least there's hope.

"Take another sip from this hobo's wine"

When does it become official that you drink too much? Is it when you are alone in a public toilet, swigging brew? Is it when your friends start to get carted away in ambulances because they simply can't keep up? Is it when every tagged photo of you on facebook seemes to involve you clutching a bottle or passed out in gutters? Is it when you think it's a good idea to light a ball of toilet paper on fire and throw it around a nightclub? Is it when bartenders have drinks ready for you by the time you make it to the bar? Or is it, horror of horrors, all of the above?

Yes it's been a busy, well few weeks to say the least.

J has been trying to rekindle her friendship with S, with the aid of Bossman who has always gotten along very well with him. J isn't sure why S hasn't been hanging around with us since he returned from Asia but she didn't want to give up on the friendship. Pity S has become a total wanker. He always was a bit of a private school twit who looked down on J for sleeping around even though he's the male version of a slut. But these days? It's so much worse. He orders mulled wine in bogan pubs and spends half his time talking in French because it's 'such a beautiful language'. We may look dumb, but we really aren't. J has been speaking fluent French for years, but she doesn't do it to impress people unlike S. S claims he loves his life and his girlfriend and doesn't need to drink but a few mulled wines later he's talking about bedding every girl in the joint. We might not quote Kurt Vonnegut or James Joyce on a daily basis, but that doesn't mean we haven't read Ulysses. It's really annoying when people think you're stupid or inarticulate, just because you're young or female or went to a public school or drink or have sex. So J has essentially decided S isn't cool enough to be her friend anymore. Unless he drops the wanker act anyway. On the plus side she's cleared the air with Bossman and told him she has no interest in sleeping with him and she's happy to be just friends. So that's settled.

Instead J decided to attempt to pick up one of A and L's uni friends at the drinking-spectacular (two words: open bar) that was the Law Ball. She got him talking about law, music and football and all would have ended well except that A was going drink for drink with his best mate. Never mind that A had already downed half a bottle of vodka for pre-drinks (and he hadn't had any), the several bottles of wine they shared ended up with the best mate being rushed to hospital in an ambulance. A felt guilty, but not as guilty as her friend and a disappointed J ended up going home alone. H found her old pretend friend uni-guy and started yelling at him across the room, only for him to disappear moments later, clearly spooked. No one really wants someone as scary as H screaming 'why did you delete me off facebook?!' at the top of her lungs. A was washing her champagne soaked legs in the sink in the bathroom, only to be caught by the uni version of miss perfect. A met her way back in first year and they were friends until A realised she was boring, got 100% on everything, disapproved of everything from alcohol to premarital sex to soft drink that wasn't diet and never ever stuffed anything up. The night of the ball she had perfect hair, a knee-length dress and had perfect posture in heels. She was also giving A that stiff, upper class look. A's hair was a tangled mess, her dress was around her hips, she can't wear heels and not fall, and she was washing her legs in the sink. But you know what? A beat the little perfect princess by one mark on the criminal law final exam last year. A true victory for the uh, screw-ups. Again, we're not as dumb as we look. L brought secret admirer as her date, and apparently they are now officially boyfriend and girlfriend. H has decided this is the reason she hasn't seen L in 4 weeks and spent much of the night bagging the crap out of secret admirer. It ended up being A, of all people, who comforted him, explaining that H takes a long time to warm up to people. If she ever does. Maybe cold comfort then?

No one's seen much of B and K, lately. J saw them 2 weeks ago but after a disastrous clubbing experience has vowed to have a 'twin-free month'. It's been surprisingly easy what with them having moved back home. K apparently has a new boyfriend...yet again. This one is twice her height, a ranga, and never calls or texts her back. So a typical K choice then.

Tonight we've found a club doing a hobo-themed night. So essentially exactly our thing. Forget fancy arse balls, we're all about ripped stockings and cheap beer. Bring it on, the scummier the better.

"So we're all men of our word really... except for, of course, Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman."

The university holidays were spent in varying degrees of undress in several different places, which is why there hasn't been a lot of posts.

L and A both went holidaying up north to various beaches. After a semester of 4-hour exams, too much alcohol and too much work they just wanted a break. Lazy days spent on the beach, tanning in the sun and a couple of ice-cold beers. But not the crazy parting antics we've come to expect from them. They just needed a break. L is still seeing her former secret admirer but isn't ready to fully commit and she needed a break from him too.

H had a wild trip to the US with her older brother who is moving to LA to pursue an acting career. She thought she'd help him settle in. In the end she made a few friends, went to a hell of a lot of parties and did a lot of drugs. She was close to getting arrested several times for lots of different reasons but always managed to get someone to getaway drive her. That's H. Always making friends the world over. And yet, she still couldn't convince anyone to give her band a recording contract. That could be because said band doesn't ave a name yet or any original songs. Give it time. Now she's back home and looking for a new place to live, naturally. She's also decided to go back to university this semester and study media. Just for a change.

J isn't going back to uni deciding to get a new job in a bar. It's the best place for her really, since she spend all of her time in bars anyway. But she's going to have to find a bar with her kind of people, like her current job in retail. As in co-workers who are comfortable with the fact that she drinks four energy drinks, talks about sex non-stop and is probably going to make-out with them at some point. Her mate and colleague S, has recently returned from his trip to Asia. She was looking forward to partying with him while the fab four were out of town but he doesn't appear that eager to talk to her. He's been ignoring her calls and texts. He visited the store to chat to Bossman, but not J. Bossman then lied to J about seeing S. She found out from P. J isn't too happy, but suspects S is pissed off at her because she's slept with two of his friends but refused to have sex with him. It's all a major double standard since he calls J a slut for her bed-hopping antics but he just laughs at the fact that Bossman has also slept with some of his friends. S, being a private school boy, has always been a bit pretentious and not as open-minded as most of our other friends. But he is still J's friend and it's unfair to be pissed off at her for the same reasons they get along so well in the first place. Either way it has forced J to hang out much more than she would like with B and K. B hasn't been too annoying for her and has only mentioned R once since he's return from New Zealand. He's living on his own since T is overseas. K on the other hand is still as insane as ever. She's talking about moving back in with her parents because she misses having close family and has a new loser boyfriend who is 8 years older than her and rumour-has-it is engaged to someone else. She constantly bails on plans with J to sit at home and study even though it's holidays. Whenever she does go out she gets ridiculously drunk and starts screaming at or attempting to fight bartenders/bouncers/taxi drivers/randoms. She's also always copying J to seem more 'cool' such as only liking bands/movies J likes even though we've known her for ages and know better. She's even 'switched' football teams! Of course J hasn't been able to talk about it with B because B gets all defensive. M and E are on holiday to the snow (though not together), and none of J's other good friends know K well enough to sympathise properly. Well, the fab four are back now and it's time to get a little crazy.

"But 3 hours later and 7 shots of jager, she was in the bedroom with another guy"

When J and S party together, they make a very dangerous pair. Forgetting about Justin for a night, J headed out to S's going away party because he is flying to Asia for the next month. H warned J that it might not be such a great idea since it's no secret (at least not to H) that S has wanted to sleep with J for awhile now and the only thing stopping him is their friendship and since he's about to fly out of the country he's going to go for it. J laughed it off, reminding H that S has a new girlfriend, and wore her new super-short and also low-cut (to show off the tatts of course) dress anyway.

The party started with a few dozen shots off the bar. Tequila, vodka and anything else the bar was serving.

J had several plans for the night, one of which was getting S to hook up with their boss. Let's just say everything went according to plan. Somehow J managed to get them to make out (probably be making out with some other chick herself) and was cheering them on by telling them how hot it was. She then made out with both S and her boss herself. The guy she was flirting with all night was apparently bored of this and had sex with some other guy's girlfriend in the bathroom only to be caught with said boyfriend. Cue punch-on. S then took ill and was throwing up off a balcony. The boy cannot hold his drink. And yet he still invited J back to his house, along with the girlfriend. J refused. Looks like H was right. S just wanted to get in her pants all along. J was pretty pissed off. She doesn't sleep with her friends.

Later J ended up going home with another of S's friends. They went back to J's house but unfortunately she still lives with her parents and the walls are very thin, so they had sex in the front garden. Luckily none of her neighbours was taking the dog for a stroll at that moment...

That night was also the night of T's birthday party, forcing K and B to have to show up at a social ocasion together. They weren't particularly pleased to see each other. K brought along her new boyfriend. Apparently she's now dating the guy she's staying with. Sex as rent. B yelled at K to tell her her behaviour was totally inapproriate and T didn't seem to pleased with her baby sister 'shacking up' with a guy she's been going out with all of 2 weeks. To be fair, they have known each other through university for over a year. Either way K got really drunk ands was basically yelling at B half the night telling her she was a complete loser who had to get over R not to mention she was a total bitch. She also told her everyone else was pissed at her (which is partly true) and that she looks like a slut when she wears too much make-up as she was that night. K's new boyfriend took her home early but the damage was done. B has announced she doesn't want anything to do with her sister ever again. Overly dramatic, but then both of them always are.

K's not exactly wrong about everyone being less-than happy with B though. She still won't stop whining about R all the time which is infuriating and just doesn't seem to be up for any fun anymore. She'd rather hang out with T watching movies than go out for drinks but the biggest problem is that she lies all the time. When L told A she couldn't make it to the football this weekend because she had her grandmother's birthday B told her to come to T's party because she knew L just didn't want to go to the football. Um, not true. L actually did have her grandmother's birthday. But now we understand what all of B's recent 'family' excuses actually mean. Lies. A responded by spreading rumours that B is secretly a lesbian, for no reason other than to prove she is a better liar than B. Everyone is a better liar than B.

"God made alcohol as a social lubricant. To make men brave, and to make women loose"

Natural viagra and laser tag: is this what our lives have come to?

The past week has flown by in a blur of house-warming parties, school work and part-time jobs that sometimes seem full-time.

K has vanished from everyone's lives, at least in all practical respects. Fighting and living with B got to be too much for her and last weekend she packed up her things to move in with a friend from uni. B was more pissed off than upset but she's got her own problems like R-withdrawal. She still sees him a lot but she hates not living with him and next week he's going to New Zealand. His sister lives there, and B is worried he's never going to come back. K has been keeping herself too busy to see anyone but really she just doesn't want to see B. It's sad to see two sisters as close as they are fighting so hopefully they'll be over it soon. Pity K has to over-dramatise everything.

J still hasn't slept with Justin and she's getting more than just impatient. She's getting frustrated. Justin is a nice guy, but nice guys just don't cut if for J. She feels likes she's tried everything. She tried getting him drunk. That didn't exactly uh...work. She tried joining him for the things he wanted to do (cue laser tag) in the vain hope he'll then want to do what she wants to do. No such luck. S suggested she offer him such natural viagra, since it always works for him. Um, how old are we? Anyway S is leaving for an Asia/Europe adventure in about a week so he's throwing a huge going away party and J is sure she'll be able to get laid there. S has some very attractive friends. It turns out Justin's friends aren't too bad either. B's already fallen for one and A has gone further with another than it seems J and Justin ever will. As if J wasn't already pissed off enough...

L is feeling the effects from the volunteering position from hell she has and her trial working for a law firm, giving advie to elderly Italians. She'd skipped so many booze nights, when she finally showed up for one she got sick and started throwing up in the gutter. L never throws up. She's either going to have to quit her job or come up with a taste for lemon lime and bitters real fast.

H already hates her new flatmate Miss Priss. We could have all told her it would happen but she's just not the sort of person H should be living with. Miss Priss is parsley growing on the balcony, clean floors and a fridge full of organic food. H is waking up on the lawn, lost credit cards and a fridge full of beer. It's going to be a long six months.

And now it's off to play drunken frissbee with trays stolen from restaurants. Don't tell us we don't know how to have a good time.

"Being just friends doesn't have to mean settling for something less"*

I recently read somewhere that guy friends are basically boyfriends that didn't work out, and that it's hard to have a guy friend when you're in a committed relationship. It got us thinking about our guy friends and where they came from.

C...C started off as A's gay best friend, which is sort of odd because he isn't actually gay. But he is one of those gay straight guys and sometimes it's hard to tell. A actually thought he was gay for ages and felt really bad when she found out the truth, but needless to say there were no romantic feelings on her behalf. C is a sweetheart (which might be the reason A was never attracted to him) but he had a girlfriend when he met A and hasn't been interested in her since they broke up. They are both very upfront people. A introduced C to everyone else about a year ago and he gets along with everyone very well but none of them too well. He hasn't slept with anyone, and while there has been mild flirting it doesn't seem likely anything will ever come of it. A true 'friend' and certainly not a rejected potential husband or whatever.

P...P is J's gay best friend and so clearly there isn't any attraction coming from him or going to him. P is always up for a good time and is insanely flirty, but it's never going to go anywhere with us. He has an actual boyfriend at the moment and they've been together for several months, which is diffferent as he's usually the play-the-field type. Either way, he won't be making his way into any of our beds and hasn't yet.

E...E is technically K's ex-boyfriend. Okay, there's no technically about it. He used to hang around with us all the time during the year they were together, along with his friend who happened to be seeing another friend of ours at the time. We no longer see her. There was another couple of their single mates. We all used to hang out in a big group and had a lot of fun together. The problem is, E never really loved K. He stayed with her because he knew she'd be upset if he broke up with her, and also because he didn't want to create trouble in our friendship circle. K was really into him and never saw that he wasn't really into her. It was obvious to everyone else. He didn't like to spend time alone, never bought her anything and would forget occasions like her birthday. Eventually they broke up and our group split up virtually into guys and girls. However E and H were really close and they still are. It's been nearly three years since they split up but K completely hates him. We try to spend time with E when K's not around and don't tell her about it. B, H, M and E used to go to the movies every month. I'm not sure if it counts that E is an ex turned friend. K is not friends with him. The rest of us have never slept with him or considered it.

Y...We all used to hang out with Y(and his mates) heaps. We met him through friends at a club and K pursued an unsuccessful relationship with his friend. B also hooked up with another of his friends but never took it any further. After we'd known him for a few months he and J made out and J wanted to take things further. For whatever reason, the two of them never crossed that line. There was always something: not enough alcohol, too much alcohol, an hour walk home, early classes, beach holidays...Eventually J came to the conclusion that he didn't want to sleep with her and we don't really see any of them anymore which is a shame because we all made a good group. So I suppose that's a friendship that came out of failed romance (K and B) but was also ruined by it...(J)

R...B's ex-boyfriend. It hasn't been conclusively decided whether he's actually anyone's friend(actually we kinda hate him), although we do see him more often than some of our actual friends, probably because he lives with B and K. Before the break-up we all got along quite well. H, especially who shared a taste in music with R. Post break-up we all kept our distance a bit because we didn't know what B would want. As the situation unfolds, R is acting more and more like an arsehole and B is tripping over herself to win him back. If he were a friend, R would definately be born out of a relationship that didn't work out. But the truth is, he isn't really anyone's friend. Maybe one day he will be, but the way things are? No way.

S...S works with J and P sometimes, although that's not in fact how we met him. S knows lots of dudes in bands and we know lots of dudes in bands (especially H, who happens to know some bona fide rock stars)Bold and somehow we were introduced. We ended up playing the what the fuck drinking game (where everyone has a 'fuck' name, sings along and anyone who stuffs up has to drink) which meant friends for life. There has always been chemistry between J and S, and they've never really known what to do with it. They have kissed, although nothing more. J has slept with his best mate and S tried to convince A to sleep with him to get J back. We didn't see S for awhile when he was pissed off at J, then they had a nice stale 'friend zone' thing going and now it's at this awkwards will-they-or-won't-they-stage. We didn't technically become friends from a failure of anything but the chemistry between him and J is too hard to ignore. They won't end up together, but the attraction is there.

So looking at that, it's probably around 50/50. Sure some of our best guy pals come out of someone's failed relationship, but there are plenty of girl mates who do to. We met M through a guy she used to date that we knew, and now she hangs with us a lot. Certainly all our guy friends aren't our friends because there was attraction or chemistry at some point. Sometimes friends are just friends. And that's usually where you get the best friendships from because you're not settling for less, you're not hanging out because 'something more' didn't work out, the friendship is that something more. At the end of the day, if you're just settling because it didn't work out or if someone's trying to pursue something more...well, you aren't really friends are you?

"Hanging out behind the club at the weekend, acting stupid getting drunk with my best friends" Blink 182- The Rock Show

Ah, Easter Break. The whole entire week off from university, if not work. Time to go shopping for the new handgabs we need to sneak booze into clubs, time to catch up with old friends over coffee and cheap pizzas. Time to return to committed exercise regimes and catch up on all our favourite TV shows (can you guess that Skins is one?). Yeah, time off is good. Not to mention that Easter weekend is always a 4-day bender for those of us without religious tendancies, that being all of us except L. It had to be bacon and eggs and pancakes on Monday morning.

Thursday
SO much alcohol: skittles vodka, chocolate vodka, tequila...in shots, in mixed drinks, in everything
It had been a long week. We were all struggling to get through it with the mid-semester slump and all. After pre-pre-drinks A, J, B, K, L and H rocked up to their local pub. It was packed so they collected a tray of drinks each, leaving a table with at least thirty glasses on it and lots of 'looks' from other patrons. Oh well. The place was full of peole we knew, including people we went to school with and Vand X . It had been awhile since we'd seen X. Apparently he'd been in Asia for a few months. It hadn't cured his fashion problems though, he still thought tracksuit pants were acceptable in public. L was quick to try and flirt with X, only to be dragged away by H who didn't want her to make a full of herself. A dared B to throw a punch at V but when she didn't, decided to go threaten him herself. No doubt he woke up with a bruise on his shoulder the next morning. J spend an hour chatting to a guy she didn't even speak to in school, insisting The Clash were the superior 'punk' band. K was hitting on the bartender (yet again, and doesn't she have a boyfriend?) trying to score free drinks. It was worth it for the free beer. L stole jewellery off some random chick she'd never met, lucky she didn't get caught. H started prank calling everyone in the pub and laughing when they answered but wasn't exactly happy when she was caught by the old high school weirdo who recognised her voice and actually wanted to chat. That was the cue to leave. Three clubs later we were danced out, drunk out and K had almost hooked up with a guy not her boyfriend. L hurried home to prepare for Good Friday while everyone else woke up on H's lawn with a slow-returning memory.
Friday
Started with jello-shots, ended with jagerbombs.
Sure it was Good Friday but we're always ready to indulge ourselves. After fish and chips for dinner (who sends we aren't good god-fearing citizens?) A, J, H, B, K and N had a few drinks at B and K's before hitting the clubs. It was all going well until T and R showed up to say happy easter and drop off some chocolates. All of a sudden B was fawning all over R. She didn't want to smoke because R doesn't approve, and didn't want to drink too much because R doesn't approve. She put her hair down (it had previously been in a really great updo) so he couldn't see her new earpiercing. She'd suddenly turned as nervous and quiet as a mouse. When everyone else decided it was time to hit the clubs B decided she was going to stay with R and T instead. Then she dropped the bombshell: she was leaving the next day to go to Adelaide with R and T for the rest of the weekend. As you may have noticed, A, J, K, B, H and L are a very close group of friends. Never more so than Easter weekend where we commit ourselves to going out every night with each other(except L who has a religious weekend). Why? It's what we do. Friendship is the most important thing in our lives. To have B ditch us was...to say we were pissed off was an understatment. Leaving in an angry flurry everyone else picked up the drinking pace and ended up in a night that no one would remember, or would want to. When you start getting strange calls from guys you don't recall you know it's been a big night. Friday was a big night.
Saturday
Without B, everyone was feeling a little down and not like they should spend the night together. A and G had a night sitting outside drinking wine and gossiping. K spent the night with end-of-the-train-line and his family, and ended up taking their relationship to the next level. J went out with P, spending a lot of time bitching about S who has trurned into even more of a wanker than he previously was. Apparently he has found the 'love of his life' a week ago and won't shut up about it and generally acting like even more of a private school pretentious twat then he already was. H went out with some work friends who turned out to be lightweights and was disappointed when she spent most of the night holding a friend's hair while they threw up in the garden. Who knows what B was up to? No doubt throwing herself at R who wouldn't notice and would care even less.
Sunday
J and K went out together to a club they love but everyone else has vowed never to go to again due to the high percentage of sleazy guys and the low percentage of alcohol in the drinks. J caught up with an old guy she used to sleep with (vampire, guess why) but then found someone new and cute to fill her with drinks and carry an actual conversation rather than just try to feel her up. He turned out to be nice and interesting and J didn't sleep with him which means she really likes him. Unfortunately K was left to her own devices. Trying to avoid cheating, she called end-of-the-train-line but he didn't want to talk to her. Not a good sign. She then tried B, but she wouldn't answer her phone. Not a good sign. H attended a house party with her flatmate and it turned out to be quite good. Who knew someone who seemes so seemingly antisocial could have such cool friends? She even found a guy she liked which is rare for H. A hung out with G and her friends which resulted in a few nude runs around the streets before A passed out in a pile of corn chips.
Monday
It was supposed to be recovery day but when A, J, K, and H met up to discuss the events of the weekend someone broke out a bottle of bacardi. Soon it was empty and they were moving on to cheaper and harsher and not neccessarily alcohol. They woke up with no memories, a guy who couldn't speak English and a pair of twin sisters who'd had so much plastic surgery they looked like dolls. Turns out they go to K's uni and also make porn movies on the side.

Now it's time to watch the first season of Skins. For the hundredth time.

"Christ! Does it always have to be about them? Just give me a call when you're ready to talk about something besides men" Miranda in Sex and the City

With the mid-semester slump hitting us a week earlier than expected, everyone is starting to freak out a little. The feeling of frustrated helplessness that occurs at this point in the semester is back, with all of us daydreaming of the beach and staying in bed rather than facing the day. Who wants to go to class when it's raining? Who wants to sit on-line tests or read textbooks or write essays even if they're due that day? Not us. So rugged up in our brand new scarfs and leather jackets, and armed with mint-flavoured coffee (creme de menthe) we're ready to party.

Friday
H attended uni guy's house party which turned out to be one of the wildest parties she'd been to in like a week. She took along E, because she figured it would be safe to hang around with him now that K has a new boyfriend. The party was one of those ones where no one really needed to drink because everyone was on ice or ecstasy or whatever their drug of choice happened to be. There were pills everywhere and pretty soon E and this other chick were having sex in the corner in fron of everyone, not that anyone seemed particularly bothered. H decided to hang out in the garden where someone had started a huge bonfire and someone was apparently burning dead bird carcasses. Because you know, even that smell is better than watching some guys attempt to shuffle. That was about the last thing she remembers until waking up in a KFC, missing half her clothes and with a new nose piercing. Later someone told her she'd hooked up with one of uni guy's mates who looks like Alice Cooper. As for E, he's going to be spending the next week waiting for the results of an STI check. Nasty.
K went out with end-of-the-train-line and spent the night at his house. She insisted on sleeping on the couch and he wasn't too happy. She asked him point-blank if he only wanted her for sex. His reply? "I want sex but it's not all I want. I mean you're amazing, how could I not want to have sex with you?" They're supposed to be going out on Wednesday but K is now worrying that their relationship is going too fast, physically not emotionally. After all "No one wants to marry thr girl who sleeps with them in 2 weeks". We doubt that's actually true but anyway...
A and J went concerting. They met a pair of what they thought were cool Italian guys and ended up going for drinks afterwoods. One beer later and it was clear they weren't going anywhere but home. When a guy tries to feel you up in front of his friend and your friend when you've only known him an hour and only had one drink it spells sleaze and trouble. A and J called it a night then and there.
T and B ended up staying at home to watch the wog boy. T also invited R, so B had to put up with him for the night. She doesn't have the balls to tell her sister she doesn't want to see R anymore. Of course, she also doesn't have the guts to tell R she wants him out of the house.
L had a family reunion to attend. She didn't drink and didn't meet anyone fun.
Saturday
J, A, H, L, C, E, P and S all got together for expresso martinis at H's place. H's roomate was there as well, but didn't really join in the fun. He's a bit of a recluse and tends to stay in his room smoking pot. This suits H, who doesn't have the time or the personality to deal with the same person every day. They ended up playing "I never..." the drinking game with apple pie shots (we do cinnamon sprinkled on tongue followed by a shot of vodka and a shot of apple juice). The game goes something like saying "I never (something, like say, had sex on a playground)" and then whoever has done it has a drink. Needless to say everyone got very drunk rather quickly, especially S who's a lightweight. It also got rather awkward on "I've never wanted to have sex with someone I work with" and S drinks while looking straight at J. That was game over because J is trying to avoid sleeping with S. P then dragged everyone off to a gay bar where there was dancing, but C wasn't happy because everyone was hitting on him. E wasn't happy because no one was hitting on him, but really he'd had enough action for the weekend hadn't he?
Sunday
There are only two seasons we care about: summer and footy season. This weekend, the footy was back, so A, B and K headed off to one game while H and L headed off to the pub to watch another. Going to the footy is an excellent experience, because it's one of the places you can scream out your aggression and no one can tell you off for it. It's one of the best places you yell out the frustration from the mid-semester slump. At the footy, we really are one of the boys, complete with overpriced beer and mear pies. Or, in K's case, chocolate biscuits and potato chips. What kind of Australian doesn't like meat pies?
After the game A,B, K joined J (who was working) for Brandy Alexanders and to gossip about K and end-of-the-train-line. Unfortunately, B kept bringing up R. Because J wasn't pissed off enough at her to begin with. Before J could even tell her off though, A got in. "B we are so sick of talking about R. It's done. It's over. We want to talk about K's new boyfriend now." B got insulted and walked off. No one chased after her, especially not J. In fact, she hadn't uttered a word to B all night. B still hasn't apologised to J about the texting incident. She probably never will. The night ended shortly after that.

Now it's Monday and back to uni. One more week until Easter Break. It's the only thing keeping us together. That and our mint-flavoured coffee.

"She never loved me why would anyone?" The Vines- Get Free

Monday nights hitting the town? Sure, why not?

J and K decided to enjoy a night out just the two of them because J didn't want to have to see S, who'd invited her over for a DVD night, and K didn't want to meet up with the 'Australian' guy with the kiwi accent. Odd for K, who usually jumps at the chance to see any guy who calls her thinking that the fact that he knows how to write a text message makes up for other flaws such as crap personality or looks.

Either way they went local, crashing what turned out to be some guy's birthday party with all his friends. It was at a club/pub so it wasn't technically gatecrashing but it was practically just them and the birthday group nonetheless. Not that they realised until the end of the night.

J was in a hook-up rather than dance move so she took her cigarettes and her tequila and went and sat in the beer garden. Surprisingly K didn't crack the shits as she does whenever B whips out the smokes. Maybe it's just her sister smoking she doesn't like. J had her eye on a hot guy in a tartan shirt but he disappeared so she found another guy, not quite as good-looking but good-looking enough, to fuse lips and busy hands with. He turned out to be a crap kisser so J moved on to another guy she quite liked and who offered her a light. While she was making out with him she saw tartan shirt guy laughing at her from accross the room. Turns out he, the guy she was currently kissing and her previous guy were all friends and part olf the birthday group! Cringe. She wasn't exactly eager to do anything after that. K had found a fun guy but he had to go home earlier so she was left to her own devices. A few wet pussy shots later (wet pussy shots should really be called 'pussy' shots since there doesn't appear to be any alcohol in them. they're too easy to drink for shots, don't taste like booze and once H had 10 and was still sober for the next hour) she was making out with a different guy when her phone started buzzing with text messages. One of the friends of the first guy she'd hooked up with (they were evidently part of the birthday crew) had seen her with the new guy and rang him. He was apparently pissed off ands started sending her texts calling her a slut. Come on mate, you went home. That's your problem. She doesn't owe you anything.

Meanwhile R has finally moved out of B and K's place. Or rather, been kicked out. Not that B had anything to do with it. Eventually it was up to H to get rid of him, since B was too spineless to do it herself. H, being perfectly bitchy and upfront about it, told R he had 24 hours to evecuate the premises. When he didn't she arranged to change the locks, and, while he was out, packed all his stuff up in cliche black rubbish bags and left them on the street. He found everything a few hours later, including his ipod that had been wiped of all his beloved The Beatles music. He tried to call B, but H knew better and had stolen her phone for the occasion. The only problem now is that T, B's big sister, has become good friends with R and has started inviting him to all their family events. Shouldn't she be on B's side? She's her big sister she's supposed to be protecting her. Either way it's unlikely R will ever be truely out of B's life. Well, until he returns home to Scotland. And even then that's no guarantee. Best to keep it all out of the family sometimes.

"Sex makes everything more complicated. Even not having it, because the not having it makes it complicated" -Amanda in The Holiday

The past weekend has been a bit of a blur. A, L and K have all been on uni camp. A and L's was pretty much a weekend long bender, complete with the consumption of bottles of pomegranate flavoured vodka and strawberry liquor and waking up in the beds of the taboo first-year student. K, on the other hand, had an 'educational' boot camp, complete with obstacle course and alcohol ban.

Then there's J and S. A quick recap on their history: friends with chemistry, they met at work and spent week after week flirting without crossing any real boundaries. At a house party, J slept with S's best mate and he was crushed. He was also really pissed at J and they didn't speak for a few weeks. Then they went the just friends route for awhile which worked well for them. But now they are returning to the chemistry/flirting territory.

There's nothing wrong with a little flirtation between friends. Everyone has a friend of the opposite sex they constantly flirt with and it doesn't mean anything. But there are boundaries that just shouldn't be crosses. Especially when you work together.

S has been showing a lot of dangerous signs
  • He hasn't gotten laid in awhile
  • He visits J at work on his days off and even waits an hour outside while she and P are closing (P hates S and refuses to allow him in the store when he's not actually working and takes as long as possible to cash up when he's waiting) so he can walk her to the train station.
  • He keeps suggesting they go out drinking, just the two of them
  • He constantly suggests she sleep over at his house
  • He thinks she's easy due to her past behaviour
  • They walk about sex constantly and he makes no effort to hide the fact that it turns him on
  • He's a guy

As for J she doesn't exactly have a lot of self-control and gets herself into some...um...interesting situations. Hence fucking his best mate in the first place. She doesn't want to sleep with him, but suspects if he makes a move she'll just go along with it. And if she does it's going to create a multitude of problems. Chances are it'll be either awkward (*friendship over*) and uncomfortable, or they'll become fuck buddies. J will probably continue her sexual escapades with other guys which will lead to jealousy on his part because he's just generally a possessive/jealous guy (*friendship over*). They'll never end up in an actual relationship because J is...well, J. In addition K will be pissed off because she has a thing for S even though they haven't met. She's convinced he is her soul mate. Thank god they haven't met.

It can never end well when friends sleep together. In life there are people you have sex with and people you don't. Mix them together and you basically just make a mess.

"Please allow me to introduce myself" The Rolling Stones-Sympathy for the Devil

This really should have been the first post but here we are, a summary of the cast of characters that make up French Toast and Failure.

Introducing*:

A
Opinionated, blunt and honest A is a somtimes geeky law student and at other time rebelious and stupid. Works hard but play harder, A is constantly sick from nights of binge-drinking and obsessed with gigs and music. Currently undertaking a dating game whereby she can only eat dinner if a guy buys it for her, and is starving to death beacause of it.

J
A's best friend, J is an addictive personality addicted to everything from smoking to sex. Works two jobs and is a sometimes student but manages to party harder than everyone she knows. Regularly competes in drink-offs or fuck-offs (pretty much how it sounds) and is into spontaneous adventures like getting a tattoo out of the blue or flying halfway accross the country. Never spends a weekend at home. Ever.

K
Otherwise known as psycho-stalker-bitch. Pretty much the most intense person ever who has absolutely no control over her temper or anything else. REALLY desperate around guys and chases after them with endless phone calls and text messages. Has been kicked out or refused entry to pretty much every club in the city. Dreams of being a cop because she's always on a power-trip. Needlessly violent. DO NOT mess with K.

B
K's twin sister is constantly looking for balance in her life. Needs to please everyone which means she ends up pleasing no one especially not herself. At times she's J's party buddy sidekick eager to have countless one-night-stands and at others she's quiet as a mouse in the corner trying to not to get involved in confrontation. Has no idea what she wants in life.

H
The bitchiest person this side of Regina George, H is rarely nice to anyone who pisses her off. Is clear on her hatred of K, though gets along very well with R. Goes through jobs and drugs and houses like everyone else goes through toilet paper, H is always on the move. She doesn't like habit or being preditable. Has been known to shave her head just because someone suggested she wouldn't.

L
H's best friend, L is the golden girl and a goody-two shoes. Who drinks and smokes. L disappears for weeks at a time during exams and christian holidays. Has a loving family and a perfect academic transcript. Oddly, cannot find a job. Will probably be the first to be married with children now that B and R are over.

R
B's ex-boyfriend from overseas who just dumped her but is still living in her house. Needless to stay, K has tried to kill him. Deceivingly nice, R is actually very selfish and an always troublemaker. He tries to pull B away from her friends and toys with her heart. Not to mention ripping her (and K) off. It is suspected both K and B are still in love with him.
N
Not always around but always amusing, no one is really sure who N is or what she does. She's a lightweight when it comes to alcohol and can usually be found throwing up in a cab. Surprises everyone sometimes, like the time she was caught making out with a stranger on the train.
M
Dancer and good friend of J's, M can be endlessly judgemental. J often hides her indiscretions from M, who always finds out later. Always the first home on a night out, M knows everyone because she went to about 10 different high schools. Has an odd array of friends who are usually more fun than her.
G
Always has the best drinking stories (well, other than A, J and B) and is frequently the last one on the dancefloor. Whip-smart and with a long-term boyfriend, G is often caught dirty dancing or pashing other girls and guys in cloak rooms. Knows everyone that M doesn't and always brings a few extra to any party. In a bitchfight with J.
V
Sexy, hot and completely up-himself, V is a fixture in the clubbing scene. Has had an on/off love/hate relationship with A since forever and has also been with J for two nights. Gets into regular fistfights and can hook up with pretty much any girl he chooses. Is convinced L is in love with him, even though she's hated him since they were 5.
X
V's sidekick and partner-in-crime. Hated by A and loved by L, he's probably lucky to still be alive. Usually seen standing next to V and laughing at his antics. Has no real personality of his own which is probably why he's such good friends with V.
C
Everyone has a gay friend who isn't really gay. C is that friend. He's into musical theatre and wears expensive clothes. Somehow manages to get all the girls even though everyone thinks he's gay at first. Odd.
S
J's friend until she slept with his best mate and their friendship went downhill. Thinks everyone is a drunk and is probably right. K is infactuated with him even though they haven't actually met. If they ever do there will be trouble.
P
P is actually gay and is fuck buddies with pretty much every other gay guy in town, although currently in a relationship. Can drink everyone but A and J under the table. Usually the three of them are still going at 6am. Hates S although pretends they are mates.
T
B and K's older sister, T knows all the cool places to be when sober and knows nothing when drunk. Likes to steal things. Has a lot of older friends but J has already slept with all the hot ones. Is the only person other than B who thinks B and R can work it out.
E
K's ex-boyfriend. Feel very, very sorry for him. He is the main victim (other than B) of K's abuse. Is too afraid to see K which is ruining his friendship with H, B and M.
Y
J's would-be fuck buddy except be won't sleep with her from some unknown reason. Suspected he either can't get it up or is just plain inadequate in bed.
